    Aval Payasam Recipe | Aval Payasam with Jaggery Recipe | Poha Payasam recipe with step by step pictures and instructions. Aval payasam is kheer made with flattened rice and milk. It is one of the quick and easy sweet recipes. We can make it in less than 30 minutes. You can use any variety of Poha for the recipe. You can serve it warm or chilled. 

    There are so many variations of aval payasam. I used jaggery but you can substitute with sugar. You can also use coconut milk to make it more rich. It is considered to be favorite of Lord Krishna and made during krishna Jayanthi. Similar to semiya payasam, it will get thickened after sometime. So always adjust the consistency while serving. Lets see how to make this quick and easy kheer.

    Aval Payasam Recipe | Aval Payasam with Jaggery Recipe | Poha Payasam

    Aval payasam is kheer made with flattened rice and milk.

    Ingredients

    • Aval ½ cup
    • Milk 2 cups
    • Jaggery ½ cup
    • Water ⅓ cup
    • Ghee 1-2 tbsp
    • Cashews handful
    • cardamom powder 1 tsp

    Instructions

    • Take Jaggery in a pan.
    • Add water to it and allow it to boil.
    • Boil till jaggery is melted. Allow it to cool down and filter to remove impurities and keep it aside.
    • Heat ghee in a pan and add the cashews and fry till golden.
    • Remove it in a plate and keep it aside.
    • In the same pan add the aval and saute in ghee.
    • Saute for 3-4 minutes in ghee.
    • Add milk and allow it to boil
    • Boil till aval is soft and cooked
    • Add the cooled jaggery mixture to it
    • Then add fried cashews and cardamom powder and mix
    • Delicious Aval Payasam is ready
    • Serve it warm or chilled

    Notes

    You can use sugar instead of jaggery
    Cool down the jaggery and add to prevent curdling.
    You can add other nuts too.

    How to make Aval Payasam with step by step pictures

    Take Jaggery in a pan.

    Heat ghee in a pan and add the cashews and fry till golden.

    Remove it in a plate and keep it aside.

    In the same pan add the aval and saute in ghee.

    Saute for 3-4 minutes in ghee.

    Add milk and allow it to boil

    Boil till aval is soft and cooked

    Then add fried cashews and cardamom powder and mix

    Delicious Aval Payasam is ready

    Serve it warm or chilled
