Butter Murukku Recipe | How to make Butter Murukku Recipe with step by step pictures and instructions. Butter Murukku is one of the favorite murukku with its so crunchy and crispy texture. It is made with rice flour, fried gram dal flour, besan and butter as main ingredients. This is one of the easy and simple recipes. You can use store bought rice flour or homemade idiyappam flour. This is popularly made during Diwali, krishna jayanthi and other festivals or occasions.
Pottukadalai flour or Roasted gram dal flour and butter gives crispy texture to murukku. I used my homemade idiyappam flour and didn't roast them. If you are using store bought idiyappam flour, dry roast for few minutes. You can make them as spiral murukku or as small pieces as we get in shops. I made a small batch and it got vanished so quickly that I got only few to take pictures. Lets see how to make this easy and quick butter murukku.

Butter Murukku Recipe | How to make Butter Murukku Recipe
Ingredients
- Rice flour 1 cup
- Besan flour/Kadalai maavu 2 tbsp
- Pottukadalai maavu/Roasted gram flour 2 tbsp
- Butter 2 tbsp
- Cumin/sesame seeda 1 tsp
- Salt as required
- Hing 2 pinches
- Oil for frying
- Water as required
Instructions
- Take roasted gram in a mixer.
- Grind it to fine powder.
- Sieve and use it as required for murukku.
- Take rice flour, besan, roasted gram flour, butter, salt, cumin seeds and hing in a bowl.
- Mix butter with flour and combine together.
- Now add water little by little and knead to form dough.
- Heat oil in a kadai
- Grease murukku press and load with dough.
- I used star nozzle to make murukku.
- Once oil is hot, press the murukku directly in oil. Don't overcrowd them.
- Flip and cook till bubbles subsides.
- Drain the murukku and repeat the same for rest of the dough.
- Butter murukku is ready. Once it cools down store in air tight container
