Dal Fry Recipe | How to make Dal Fry recipe with step-by-step pictures and instructions. Dal fry is one of the most popular side dishes from North India made with toor dal and spices. It is so flavorful and perfect to enjoy with jeera rice or roti. You can whip up amazing dal with easily available ingredients in your pantry.
There are a lot of different ways to make dal fry. People use different types of dal to make it too. This is my version of home-style dal fry which is more flavorful with onions, tomatoes, ginger, and garlic. One of the most favorite dishes for my brother. We like to have it as a side dish for chapati. Don't skip tempering with ghee as it makes it more exotic and delicious. Let's check how to make this simple dal fry.

Dal Fry Recipe | How to make Dal Fry
Ingredients
- Onions 1 medium
- Tomato 1 Big
- Green chilli 2
- Ginger garlic paste 1.5 tsp
- Red chilli powder ½ tsp
- Garam masala ½ tsp
- Salt as required
- Kasuri methi 2 tsp
- Lemon ½
- Ghee 1-2 tbsp
- Cumin seeds 1 tsp
- Mustard ½ tsp
- Red chilli 1
- Coriander leaves 2-3 tbsp finely chopped
To Cook Dal
- Toor Dal ¾ cup
- Turmeric powder ½ tsp
- Hing ¼ tsp
- Water 2.5 cups
Instructions
- Wash the toor dal.
- Add water, turmeric powder and hing to it.
- Pressure cook it for one whistle in medium and 5 minutes in low flame.
- Once pressure releases, mash the dal and keep it ready.
- Heat oil and temper with cumin seeds, mustard and red chilli.
- Then add slit green chilli to it.
- Next, add finely chopped onions and sauté till slightly golden.
- Then add ginger garlic paste and sauté till the raw smell goes.
- Then add tomatoes and sauté till mushy
- Next, add salt, red chilli powder and garam masala to it.
- Add little water and boil for 2-3 minutes.
- Then add cooked dal to it.
- Allow it to boil nicely and finally add kasuri methi.
- Squeeze half the lemon juice.
- Finally, add finely chopped coriander leaves and switch off the flame.
- Delicious dal fry is ready

How to make Dal Fry with step by step pictures
