I have included the stovetop and air fryer methods of making this chana dal namkeen. You can use a microwave or oven too. Making in Air Fryer or oven makes it a guilt-free treat with little or no oil. You can add spices of your choice. Chaat masala or amchur powder gives the taste of Haldiram style fried chana dal. Fried Chana dal is a spicy, crispy, and crunchy snack made with chana dal(Bengal gram) and spices.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak chana dal for 3-4 hours.
  2. After 4 hours, drain the water completely in a colander for 30 minutes.
  3. Then spread it on a cloth to remove the moisture.
  4. Heat oil in a Kadai and fry the chana dal in batches.
  5. Fry till crispy and golden.
  6. Drain them in kitchen tissue.
  7. While it is warm, add the salt, red chilli powder, chaat masala and mix.
  8. Fried chana dal is ready.
  9. Air Fryer Method
  10. Preheat the air fryer at 190°C for 3 minutes.
  11. Once the chana dal is dried, coat it with 1-2 tsp of oil and spread in parchment paper
  12. Air Fry them for 12-15 minutes till it is crispy. shake them 2-3 times in between to cook evenly.
  13. While it is warm, add the salt, red chili powder, chaat masala, and mix.
  14. Air Fried chana dal namkeen is ready.

Notes

Chaat masala can be substituted with amchur powder.

Adjust the spices according to your preference.

Chana dal should be completely dry before deep frying to avoid splitting in hot oil.

I used parchment paper while air frying otherwise chana dal may slip down in the holes.

For baking use the same method as air frying and adjust the timing accordingly to your oven.
