Plan and prepare the curry leaves powder in advance so it is easy to prepare the rice quickly in morning. Perfect for lunch box or taken during travel. Serve it with simple potato roast or chips.
Curry leaves has lot of medicinal benefits and good for hair growth. We always pick and throw the curry leaves added to dishes. Here since we add in powder form we indirectly consume them. Good way to feed kids. I referred many recipes and came up with my own version depending on my preference. I add tamarind paste while mixing the rice. You can grind them along with powder too. Let's see how to make this healthy and delicious karuveppilai sadam.

Karuveppilai Sadam Recipe | Curry leaves rice recipe
Ingredients
- Cooked Rice 2 cups
- Gingely Oil 1 tbsp
- Mustard ½ tsp
- Urad dal ½ tsp
- Chana dal 2 tsp
- Hing ¼ tsp
- Cashews/peanuts 7-8
- Tamarind paste 2 tsp
- curry leaves powder 2-3 tbsp
- Salt as required
Curry leaves powder
- Karuveppilai Curry leaves 1 cup
- Chana dal 1 tbsp
- Urad dal 1 tbsp
- Pepper ½ tsp
- Cumin ½ tsp
- Red chilli 4
- Coriander 1 tbsp
- Oil 2 tsp
Instructions
Making Powder
- Wash the curry leaves and dry them completely.
- Heat oil and temper with chana dal, urad dal, coriander, red chilli, pepper and cumin seeds.
- Saute them till it is brown
- Add the curry leaves to it
- Saute till it is crisp and switch off the flame.
- Cool down the mixture and transfer to mixer
- Grind to smooth powder.
- Store them in a container and use as required
Making Rice
- Heat oil and temper with mustard, urad dal, chana dal, hing and cashews.
- Saute them till brown
- Take cooled rice in a bowl
- Add the tempering to the rice.
- Then add the curry leaves powder as required and mix
- Add tamarind paste and mix to combine.
- Curry leaves rice is ready.

How to make Curry leaves rice with step by step pictures
