Kollu Idli Podi Recipe | Kollu Podi | Horsegram Powder recipe with step by step pictures and instructions. Kollu Idli Podi is spicy condiment made with horsegram. Horsegram has lot of health benefits and helps in weight loss. So I try to include it in many dishes like chutney, adai, porridge and rasam. Kollu podi is multi purpose powder which can be used as side dish to idli, dosa or can be mixed with rice.
I made slight changes to my usual idli podi recipe and came up with this recipe. You won't find any difference in taste and no body can find you have included horsegram. Mix it with ghee or gingely oil and enjoy. You can adjust the proportion of chana dal and can add urad dal or sesame seeds too. This is my second entry to this week blogging marathon themed under condiments.

Kollu Idli Podi Recipe | Kollu Podi | Horse Gram Powder Recipe
- Kollu/Horse gram 1 cup or 200 grams
- Chana dal/Kadalai paruppu 1/4 cup
- Garlic flakes 5-6
- Red Chilli 4-5
- Pepper 2 tsp
- Hing 1/4 tsp
- Salt as required
- Dry roast horse gram and kadalai paruppu separately till browned.
- Transfer them to plate
- Then roast garlic red chillies and pepper.
- Add it to horse gram, dal mixture and allow it to cook down.
- Transfer to mixer once it cools down and add salt and Hing
- Grind them to find powder
- Kollu idli podi is ready. Serve it with hot idli/dosa.
How to make Kollu podi with step by step pictures
Dry roast horse gram and kadalai paruppu separately till browned.
Then roast garlic red chillies and pepper.
Add it to horse gram, dal mixture and allow it to cook down.
Transfer to mixer once it cools down and add salt and Hing
Grind them to fine powder
Kollu idli podi is ready. Serve it with hot idli/dosa.
