Little Millet Upma Recipe | Samai Upma recipe with step by step pictures and instructions. Little millet upma is quick, healthy and delicious breakfast recipe made with millets and vegetables. Millets contain lot of health benefits and always good to have them in moderation. Little millet is also called Samai in tamil and it is rich in fiber and contains lot of minerals. You can make this upma quickly for breakfast or dinner.
Soak the millets for 15-30 minutes so it gets cooked easily. I cooked in open pot method but you can pressure cook for 3 whistles. There are no takers for upma in our home. So I make it for myself with lot of vegetables and enjoy them. Serve it with chutney or sambar. Now lets check how to make this little millet upma

Little Millet Upma Recipe | Samai Upma
Ingredients
- Samai/Little Millet ½ cup
- Onion 1 small
- Tomato 1 small
- Green chilli 2
- Ginger ½ tsp finely chopped optional
- Cabbage ¼ cup
- Capsicum ¼ cup
- Potato ½ cup
- Oil 2 tsp
- Ghee 1 tsp optional
- Mustard ½ tsp
- Urad dal ½ tsp
- Chana dal 1 tsp
- Curry leaves few
- Coriander leaves to garnish
Instructions
- Soak little millet for 15 minutes.
- Heat oil in a kadai and temper with mustard, urad dal, chana dal and curry leaves.
- Then add finely chopped onions, ginger and slit green chilli and saute for 1 minute.
- Then add tomatoes and saute till mushy.
- Now add the vegetables, salt and saute nicely for 3-4 minutes till it is half cooked.
- Then add water and allow it to boil
- Once it boils add the drained millet and close the lid.
- Allow it to cook in low flame for 10-15 minutes.
- Garnish with coriander leaves and add ghee on the top.
- Serve Millet upma hot with sambar or chutney.

How to make Little Millet Upma with step by step pictures
