Onion Tomato Masala | Onion Tomato Gravy recipe with step by step pictures and instructions. Learn how to make simple and easy onion tomato gravy. This simple side dish goes well with chapati or roti. Even I like to eat it with rice. Onions and tomatoes are mixed with spice powders and cooked. Onions and tomatoes are base for most of the Indian recipes. We can do lot of variations to this base recipe and make lot of recipes.

Ingredients

  • Onions 3
  • Tomato 1
  • Red chilli powder 1 tsp
  • salt 3/4 tsp or as required
  • Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  • Garam masala 1/2 tsp
  • Oil 4 tsp
  • Mustard 1/2 tsp
  • Urad dal 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Thinly slice the onions.
  2. Heat oil and add mustard and urad dal.
  3. Once it browns add onions.
  4. Saute nicely for 10 minutes till it is golden.
  5. Then add tomatoes.
  6. Saute nicely till tomatoes are mushy and nicely combined
  7. Now add salt, red chilli powder, turmeric powder and garam masala.
  8. Add little water and allow it to boil nicely for 10-15 minutes till raw smell goes and water is absorbed
  9. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve.

Notes

Sauteing onions and tomatoes gives nice taste to the dish

You can add green chillies and ginger garlic paste too.

Usually I add more onions and less tomatoes for this gravy. You can adjust the quantity according to your taste
