Savoury Poda Pitha | Savoury Rice Cake from Odisha recipe with step by step pictures and instruction. Poda Pitha is a traditional breakfast recipe of Orissa. It is prepared in both sweet and savoury version. I am sharing the savoury version prepared using rice, urad dal, spices and veggies.
Pithas are a variety of food similar to pancakes, dumplings or fritters, originating from the Indian subcontinent, common in Bangladesh and India. Pitha can be sweet or savoury and usually made from a dough or batter, which is then steamed, fried or griddled. They are typically eaten as a snack with chai, or as treats during special occasions. How to make Savoury Poda Pitha with step by step pictures
Wash and soak rice and urad dal for 3-4 hours.
Drain the water and take in a mixer.
Grind to smooth paste adding little water.
Transfer to the bowl. Add salt and mix. Allow it to ferment for 6-8 hours or overnight.
Add capsicum, finely chopped green chilli, ginger, grated coconut, cumin, curry leaves and coriander leaves.
Mix to form a thick batter. Can add few drops of water to adjust the consistency if it is too thick. Grease the pan with ghee or oil.
Pour the batter into the pan.
Place the pan on the stove now.
Close the lid and slow cook for 15- 20 minutes.
Once it is cooked, carefully flip the pitha.
Cook again for 8-10 minutes.
Savoury poda pitha is ready. Serve it with any curry or you can have them as such too.
