Best way to use the leftover semiya upma. I don’t like to waste food. I would convert it into different dishes like leftover upma uttapam, rice pakoda, leftover rice cutlet. You can also try Egg kothu chapati or chilli chapati with leftover chapati. I made semiya upma for dinner and it became a little mushy. So converted into delicious kara paniyaram for morning breakfast

Semiya paniyaram is a quick and instant breakfast or dinner recipe made with leftover semiya upma, Rava, and curd.

Ingredients

  • Leftover semiya upma 2 cups
  • Rava 1 cup
  • Curd 3/4 cup
  • Water as required
  • Salt as required
  • To Temper
  • Onions 1 big finely chopped
  • Green chili 2 finely chopped
  • Oil 1.5 tbsp
  • Mustard 1 tsp
  • Urad dal 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves handful finely chopped
  • Coriander leaves 3 tbsp finely chopped

Instructions

  1. Take semiya in a bowl
  2. Add Rava to it.
  3. Add curd, salt, and little water to it.
  4. Mix and keep it aside for 15 minutes.
  5. Heat oil and temper with mustard and urad dal.
  6. Once it browns add the finely chopped onions and green chilli.
  7. Saute till nicely till onions browns and add finely chopped curry leaves and coriander leaves and switch off the flame.
  8. Add the tempering to the batter.
  9. Add water to adjust consistency.
  10. Heat the paniyaram pan and drizzle some oil on the holes.
  11. Pour the batter into each hole and allow it to cook.
  12. Carefully flip and cook till golden.
  13. Semiya paniyaram is ready.

Notes

Adjust the amount of curd. You can replace it with curd entirely and skip water too.

Use gingely oil for drizzling as it tastes good

You can add grated carrot or other vegetables too.

Take semiya in a bowl

Add curd, salt, and little water to it.

Mix and keep it aside for 15 minutes.

Heat oil and temper with mustard and urad dal.

  • A brilliant idea to use leftover semiya upma to make paniyaram! I'm sure my daughter would love these - I'll definitely be trying this out. This makes sense as a breakfast idea if you have semiya upma from the previous night's dinner left over.
  • Such a crispy and tasty appe with leftover semiya upma. I just love to have it as it is. Best evening snack with cup of tea or can have for dinner too .
