Stuffed Braided Bread | Whole Wheat Vegetable stuffed braided bread | Designer Bread recipe with step by step pictures and instructions. Braided bread is one of the designer bread where dough is shaped/cut as separate stripes and each stripe is interlaced to form structure. We can form different shape and structure. I joined the bread bakers group in Facebook and this month theme is braided bread. Theme I choose is stuffed Braided bread because we always love stuffed breads and this give me a chance to try some different breads.
I followed the same recipe as my garlic bread and baked these braided bread. This bread is made of wheat flour and free of refined sugar too. I referred some you tube videos on how to shape them. It is very easy to shape them and you can serve these as evening snacks with tea or for breakfast. We love savory than sweet ones. So I used vegetable stuffing. You can make some sweet stuffing with coconut, tutti frutti, nuts too. For kids we can make with some chocolate stuffing too.

Take 1/3 cup water in a bowl and warm in microwave for 15 seconds. Add honey and yeast to warm water. Mix it nicely and keep it aside for 15 minutes
After 15 minutes yeast mixture should be frothy. This shows yeast is active
Take flour and salt in a bowl and mix it nicely
Add the frothy yeast mixture and knead to dough.
Now add oil and knead for 10-12 minutes till it is smooth and soft.
Cover and allow it to rise till it doubles in size.
In the meantime we can prepare the stuffing. Chop the vegetables and wash them.
Heat oil in a pan.
Add the finely chopped onions and saute for 30 seconds.
Then add ginger garlic paste and saute.
Then add the vegetables and give a quick stir.
Now add salt, red chilli powder, turmeric powder and garam masala.
Saute nicely for few minutes and switch off the flame.
Shaping Bread and baking
It will take between 1-2 hours. Mine got doubled in 1 hour.
Grease the baking tray with oil or butter or line with foil. I used my round cake tin as my baking tray won't rotate in oven.
Punch the dough and knead for one minute.Divide the dough into two parts and dust the surface with little flour and take one part of dough.
Roll into rectangle and mark area in the center for stuffing.
Apply some green chutney in the bottom.
Then add the stuffing on the top. Cut thin strips on both sides with knife or pizza cutter.
Start by folding the top part.
Then fold each strips alternatively to form braided shape
Finally fold the bottom to cover.
Place the stuffed bread in the baking tin and allow it to rise for 20 minutes.
Brush it with milk and bake
Preheat the oven at 180°C for ten minutes and bake in same temperature in 35-40 minutes till it browns.
Brush it with little butter/oil
Finally serve the stuffed braided bread hot with cup of coffee/Tea.
