Vazhaithandu Soup Recipe | Banana Stem Soup recipe with step-by-step pictures and instructions. Vazhaithandu soup is a healthy and nutritious soup made with banana stems. There are numerous benefits of banana stem. Banana stem is rich in fiber and helps in weight loss and is considered a good remedy for kidney stones.
I love the soup topped with corn flakes that we use to get in the Beach or roadside vendors. Generally, I am not a big fan of soups but love this hot soup and the perfect treat for monsoon. Vazhaithandu Soup Recipe | Banana Stem Soup
Ingredients
- Banana stem 1.5 cups chopped
- Butter 2 tsp
- Onion 1
- Green chilli 2
- Ginger garlic paste 1.5 tsp
- Salt as required
- Pepper powder as required
- Corn flour 2 tsp
- Water 3 cups
Instructions
- Chop the banana stem and soak in buttermilk to retain the white color.
- Heat butter and add slit green chilli and ginger-garlic paste.
- Saute for few minutes and then add finely chopped onions.
- Then saute nicely and then add a chopped banana stem.
- Saute for 2-3 minutes and then add water.
- Pressure cook it for 3-4 whistles.
- Allow it to cool down and take in a mixer.
- Grind to a fine paste and filter the extract and discard the waste.
- Heat the soup in Kadai.
- Add salt and pepper powder to it.
- Mix cornflour with 2 tbsp water to form a thick paste.
- Add the cornflour mixture to the soup and boil for few minutes till it thickens.
- Serve hot banana stem soup.
