Ven Pongal Recipe | Khara Pongal | How to make Ven Pongal
Ingredients
- Raw rice ¾ cup
- Moong dal ¼ cup
- Water 4 cups
- Hing ½ tsp
- Salt as required
- Cashews 8-10
- Ghee 2 tbsp
- Oil 2 tsp optional
- Cumin 1 tsp
- Pepper powder ½ tsp
- Green chilli 2
- Ginger 1 tsp finely chopped
- Curry leaves handful
Instructions
- Wash and take rice and moong dal in a pressure cooker.
- Add water and salt to it.
- Pressure cook for 1 whistle and 10 minutes in low flame or 4 whistles whichever is faster.
- Once pressure releases open the cooker and mash them.
- Now heat ghee and temper with cumin seeds, pepper powder, hing, ginger, green chilli, cashews, and curry leaves.
- Add it to Pongal and mix it. Check the seasoning and adjust it.
- Serve hot Pongal with sambar and chutney.

How to make Ven Pongal with step by step pictures
