Whole Wheat Naan Recipe | Whole Wheat Naan without yeast recipe with step by step pictures and instructions. Naan is one of the popular flat bread made with Maida or all purpose flour. Whole wheat naan is variation of naan using wheat flour. Usually it is leavened with yeast but this recipe is yeast free and yields so soft naans. I have used curd, baking powder and baking soda instead of yeast.
This is quick and instant version which can be prepared in less than 1 hour. Serve it with any gravy of your choice like Paneer Butter Masala, Dal Makhani, Chicken Tikka Masala, I always prepare naan in stove top. Never tried using oven to prepare the naan. You can use the same base recipe and prepare different varieties of naan like garlic naan, cheese naan, stuffed naan etc. Final recipe in my flat bread series is whole wheat naan with Aloo matar, raita, green chilli pickle and onions. Whole Wheat Naan Recipe | Whole Wheat Naan without yeast
Ingredients
- Wheat flour 2 cups
- Salt 1 tsp
- Baking powder 1 tsp
- Baking soda ½ tsp
- Curd ¼ cup
- Sugar 1 tsp
- Oil 3 tbsp
- Warm Water ¾ cup or as required
- Kalonji/Nigella seeds for sprinkling on top
Instructions
- Take flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda and sugar in a bowl.
- Mix everything together and add curd.
- Mix curd with flour and start adding warm water.
- Bring it together to form dough and add oil.
- Knead it for 5-7 minutes till the dough is soft and flexible.
- Cover and keep it aside for 30 minutes.
- Take small ball, roll and flatten them in oblong shape.
- Sprinkle kalonji seeds on the top and press with rolling pin.
- Brush it with little water.
- Heat kadai and place the naan with water side down.
- Once it is cooked in high flame, transfer to wire rack and cook the other side in direct flame.
- Once done remove and apply butter on the top.
- Whole wheat naan is ready. Serve it with any gravy.
