No Onion No Garlic Chana Masala | Chole Masala Recipe

Chana masala without onion and garlic is a simple and easy recipe made with chickpeas, tomatoes, green chilli, and spices.

Ingredients

  • Chickpeas 1.5 cups boiled
  • Tomato 3 medium
  • Green chilli 3-4
  • salt as required
  • Red chilli powder ½ tsp
  • Coriander powder 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder ¼ tsp
  • Garam masala ½ tsp
  • Amchur powder ½ tsp
  • Kasuri methi 1 tsp
  • Coriander leaves a few for garnishing.

Tempering

  • Oil 1tbsp
  • Bay leaf 1
  • Cloves 2
  • Cinnamon small stick

Instructions

  • Wash and soak the chickpeas for 6-8 hours or overnight.
  • Take soaked chickpeas in a pressure cooker along with salt and cook for 3-4 whistles.
  • Take roughly chopped tomatoes in a mixer.
  • Grind to a paste and keep it aside.
  • Heat oil and temper with bay leaves, cloves, cinnamon, and slit green chilli.
  • Add the tomato puree to it and saute for a few minutes.
  • Neat add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, and garam masala.
  • Add a little water and allow it to boil.
  • Take handful of chickpeas in a mixer.
  • Grind to a thick paste.
  • Add the chickpeas paste to the gravy along with boiled chickpeas.
  • Allow it to boil till the raw smell of the masala goes.
  • Add Amchur powder and kasuri methi to it and mix.
  • Switch off the flame and garnish with coriander leaves.
  • Delicious no onion no garlic chana masala is ready.
  • Serve it with any roti of your choice.

Notes

Don't skip Amchur powder and kasuri methi. It adds a nice flavor to the gravy.
You can use any chana or peas for making this gravy.
Adjust the spices according to your preference.
You can use canned chickpeas or tomatoes as well.
