Chilli Idli recipe | Leftover Idli recipe

Learn how to make chilli idli. This is one of the simple dishes we can do with leftover idli for snacks, breakfast or dinner.

Ingredients

  • Idli 4
  • Oil 4 tsp
  • Onions 1 small
  • Green chillies 1
  • Garlic 4 flakes
  • Salt as required
  • Red chilli powder ½ tsp
  • Pepper powder ¼ tsp
  • Soya sauce 1 tsp
  • Tomato sauce 1 ½ tbsp
  • Spring onions to garnish optional
  • Coriander leaves to garnish optional

Instructions

  • Cut the idli into small cubes. Refrigerate the idli for sometime so pieces come neat.
  • Finely chopped the onions, green chillies, garlic and capsicum.
  • Heat 2 tsp oil in pan and shallow fry the idli.
  • Fry them till crisp
  • Remove the fried idli and in the same pan add 2 tsp oil.
  • Add garlic and green chillies and saute till slightly browns.
  • Now add the finely chopped onions, capsicum and saute nicely for 3-4 minutes.
  • Add salt, red chilli powder, pepper powder, soya sauce and tomato sauce.
  • Sprinkle little water and allow it to boil for 1 minute
  • Now add the fried idlis and saute
  • Mix nicely till everything is combined.
  • Garnish with spring onions or coriander leaves and serve
  • Serve chilli Idli hot.

Notes

I always use leftover idli to make this. If you are using fresh idli make sure to refrigerate for sometime so pieces come neat.
This is mild spicy and if you want more spicy you can increase red chilli powder or green chillies.
We always have it immediately. If you want to keep for long time you can deep fry the idli for more crispiness.
