Moong Dal Karara Recipe | Rajasthani Moong Dal Karara Recipe

Moong dal Karara is one of the popular recipes from Rajasthan where moong dal pakoras are cooked in yogurt gravy

Ingredients

  • Moong dal ⅓ cup
  • Green chillies 2
  • Ginger small piece
  • Baking Soda ½ tsp
  • Coriander leaves few
  • Hing ½ tsp
  • Ghee/oil 2-3 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds ½ tsp
  • Cardamom 1
  • Cinnamon ½ inch stick
  • Red chilli powder ¾ tsp
  • Coriander powder ¾ tsp
  • Turmeric powder ½ tsp
  • Curd ½ cup
  • Garam masala ½ tsp
  • Salt as required

Instructions

  • Soak moong dal for 3-4 hours.
  • Wash soaked moong dal and take in mixie along with green chillies, salt, hing and ginger.
  • Add coriander leaves to moong dal.
  • Grind it to coarse paste.
  • Transfer to a bowl.
  • Heat paniyaram pan and drizzle oil/ghee
  • Pour the batter to pan and cook for one minutes.
  • Then flip the balls and cook till golden.
  • Moong dal pakora is ready.
  • Reserve 2 tablespoon of batter and add water, curd and mix without lumps
  • Heat oil and temper with cumin, hing, cinnamon and cardamom.
  • Once it browns add red chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, garam masala and salt.
  • Add little water so masalas got get burnt
  • Add the curd mixture and allow it to boil.
  • Once it boils add the pakoras and allow it to boil for 5 minutes.
  • Check the seasoning, garnish with coriander leaves and switch off the flame.
  • Hot Moong dal kurara is ready.

Notes

You can deep fry the pakoras instead of shallow frying.
