Broken Wheat upma is healthy and nutritious breakfast with lot of vegetables.

Ingredients

  • Broken wheat ½ cup
  • Water 1 ¼ cup
  • Vegetables mixed 1 cup
  • Onion 1
  • Green chilli 2
  • Ginger ½ tsp chopped
  • Oil 2 tsp
  • Mustard ½ tsp.
  • urad dal ½ tsp
  • Chana dal 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves few

Instructions

  • Wash and cut the vegetables and keep it ready. I used carrot, beans, potato and peas.
  • Heat oil and temper with mustard, urad dal, chana dal and curry leaves
  • Then add finely chopped onions, ginger and slit green chillies and saute nicely.
  • Then add the chopped veggies
  • Next add salt and saute the vegetables for 5 minutes.
  • Add water to it and allow it to boil.
  • Once it boils add the broken wheat.
  • Close the lid and cook till all water is absorbed and cooked.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves and serve.
  • Serve hot with chutney or sambar

Notes

I like to eat with lot of veggies. You can add other veggies like cabbage, capsicum, paneer or mushroom.
You can cook in pressure cooker for 1-2 whistles.
