Candy Cane Cookies recipe | Christmas cookies recipe

Learn how to make cute candy cane cookies for Christmas.

Ingredients

  • Wheat flour 1 ¾ cup
  • Powdered sugar ¾ cup
  • Vanilla/peppermint extract 1 tsp
  • Baking powder ¼ tsp
  • Butter ½ cup
  • Red food color few drops
  • Salt a pinch
  • Egg 1

Instructions

  • Take butter and powdered sugar in a bowl
  • Mix it with whisk or spoon till it is smooth and creamy
  • Now add egg and vanilla extract
  • Mix it nicely till everything is combined
  • Now add the flour, baking soda and salt
  • Mix together to form a dough
  • Now divide the dough to two and add color to one the dough and knead them
  • It will be soft so cover them with plastic wrap and refrigerate them for couple of hours.
  • Take the dough and make small balls of white and orange color
  • Roll the dough with your hands to form a log
  • Place two logs together and twist them like spiral.
  • Shape them as candy cane. Repeat the same for rest of the dough
  • Line the baking tray with parchment paper and arrange the cookies.
  • Preheat the oven to 175°C for 10 minutes.
  • Place the baking tray inside oven and bake in the same temperature for 15 minutes until it is crisp
  • Remove from the oven immediately and cook it in wire rack
  • Cute Candy Cane cookies are ready.
  • Store them in air tight container.

Notes

Use peppermint extract for nice flavor
You can use maida instead of wheat flour
Baking time may vary depending on thickness of cookies and oven. Always keep an eye after 10 minutes
Cookies always looks soft while taking out and later becomes firm
If the mixture is dry, add few drops of milk to form a dough. If it is sticky you can 1 tbsp flour extra and form dough.
