Candy Cane Cookies recipe | Christmas cookies recipe with step by step pictures and instructions. Learn how to make cute candy cane cookies for Christmas. You can use any basic cookies recipe to make candy cane shaped cookies. I had tried these before for my daughter and the recipe was in my notes. When I was thinking what to do for Christmas first thing I thought is making these cookies. Kids will enjoy these cute looking candy cane.

Use the red color to get the look of candy cane. You can check my old pictures. This time I didn’t have red color. Since I am going back to India next month I don’t want to get any new things and want to empty my pantry. So used the orange coloring. You can skip the egg and make these as eggless version too. In that case use less flour. They actually use peppermint extract for candy cane cookies. I used the normal vanilla extract.

Learn how to make cute candy cane cookies for Christmas.

Ingredients

  • Wheat flour 1 3/4 cup
  • Powdered sugar 3/4 cup
  • Vanilla/peppermint extract 1 tsp
  • Baking powder 1/4 tsp
  • Butter 1/2 cup
  • Red food color few drops
  • Salt a pinch
  • Egg 1

Instructions

  1. Take butter and powdered sugar in a bowl
  2. Mix it with whisk or spoon till it is smooth and creamy
  3. Now add egg and vanilla extract
  4. Mix it nicely till everything is combined
  5. Now add the flour, baking soda and salt
  6. Mix together to form a dough
  7. Now divide the dough to two and add color to one the dough and knead them
  8. It will be soft so cover them with plastic wrap and refrigerate them for couple of hours.
  9. Take the dough and make small balls of white and orange color
  10. Roll the dough with your hands to form a log
  11. Place two logs together and twist them like spiral.
  12. Shape them as candy cane. Repeat the same for rest of the dough
  13. Line the baking tray with parchment paper and arrange the cookies.
  14. Preheat the oven to 175°C for 10 minutes.
  15. Place the baking tray inside oven and bake in the same temperature for 15 minutes until it is crisp
  16. Remove from the oven immediately and cook it in wire rack
  17. Cute Candy Cane cookies are ready.
  18. Store them in air tight container.

Notes

Use peppermint extract for nice flavor

You can use maida instead of wheat flour

Baking time may vary depending on thickness of cookies and oven. Always keep an eye after 10 minutes

Cookies always looks soft while taking out and later becomes firm

If the mixture is dry, add few drops of milk to form a dough. If it is sticky you can 1 tbsp flour extra and form dough.

Roll the dough with your hands to form a log

Remove from the oven immediately and cook it in wire rack. Cute Candy Cane cookies are ready.
