Sathumaavu Cookies | Health Mix Powder Cookies Recipe with step by step pictures. Sathumaavu is health mix powder usually prepared for babies using different pulses, grains and nuts. It is prepared from that health mix powder. Usually we make porridge for babies using sathumaavu. This is healthy alternative to usual porridge. I always prepare health mix powder in home and I had big batch of health mix powder and my daughter was refusing to eat porridge. So tried making cookies and she liked it.

I tried few different combinations and came up with this recipe after trying couple of times. I prefer to use jaggery powder for this recipe as we give it to kids. If you don’t find jaggery, you can use normal powdered sugar. Do try and let me know your feedback. You can also try my other healthy cookies/biscuits recipes

Ingredients

  • Saathumaavu 1 cup
  • Butter 1/3 cup
  • Powdered jaggery/sugar 1/3 cup
  • Baking powder 1/2 tsp
  • Vanilla essence 1 tsp

Instructions

  1. Take health mix powder and baking powder in a bowl and combine.
  2. To this mixture, add butter and mix it with your finger tips to form crumble texture.
  3. Now add powdered jaggery, vanilla essence and form a smooth dough.
  4. Add few drops of milk if required to form dough. I didn't use any milk.
  5. Form a log from the dough, cling wrap and refrigerate the dough for 1-2 hours.
  6. After 2 hours, take out the dough and cut them in desired thickness
  7. Line baking tray with parchment paper and place the cookies.
  8. Preheat the oven to 160°C for 10 minutes. Bake in the same temperature for 12-15 minutes.
  9. Cool them in wire rack and serve.

Notes

Baking time may vary depending on thickness of cookies you roll as well as with different ovens. Always keep an eye after 10 minutes.

Cookies always looks soft while taking out and later becomes firm.

You can make small balls after kneading the dough and flatten them a little and bake it immediately too.

Refrigerate the dough for half an hour and roll them and cut in desired cookie shape too

If the mixture is dry, add few drops of milk to form a dough. If it is sticky you can 1 tbsp flour extra and form dough.

You can add cardamom powder or nuts. I didn't add since my healthmix powder already having those ingredients. you can use store bought powder too.
