Eral Murungakai kuzhambu | Prawn Drumstick curry

Ingredients

  • Prawn 100 grams
  • Drumstick 1 medium size
  • Red chilli powder 1 tbsp
  • Coriander powder 2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder ½ tsp
  • Salt 1 tsp
  • Green chillies 2
  • Garlic 6
  • Onions 2
  • Tomato 1 big or 2 small
  • Tamarind extract ½ cup

To Temper

  • Mustard ½ tsp
  • Fenugreek seeds ½ tsp
  • curry leaves few

To grind

  • Coconut ½ cup
  • Roasted gram dal 2 tsp
  • Cumin ½ tsp

Instructions

Preparation

  • Finely chop onions, garlic, tomatoes and slit green chillies and keep it ready
  • Cut and wash the drumstick
  • Clean and wash the prawns
  • Add little salt, turmeric powder and keep it aside
  • Transfer the ingredients under to grind to mixer.
  • Grind to fine paste.

Making Curry

  • Heat oil add mustard and Fenugreek seeds and allow to crack
  • Then add finely chopped onions, garlic and slit green chillies and saute nicely.
  • Then add tomatoes and saute till mushy.
  • Now add drumstick and saute.
  • Then add all spice powders and salt
  • After that add tamarind extract, water and allow it to boil nicely for 5 minutes
  • Now add the grounded coconut paste and allow it to boil till raw smell goes and drumstick is cooked
  • Finely add prawns and allow it to boil for 5 minutes.
  • Switch off the stove and garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot

Notes

Like Fish Curry, this also taste good next day.
I always prepare tamarind extract and keep it fridge. It will be medium consistency neither too thick nor too thin. you can use lemon size tamarind to make extract for this curry.
Adjust the spice powders according to your taste.
You can try with Brinjal instead of Drumstick
