Falafel Recipe | How to make Falafel

Falafel is crispy and crunchy deep fried snack made using chickpeas and spices.

Ingredients

  • Chickpeas 1 cup
  • Onion 1 small
  • Garlic 3-4 cloves
  • Jeera 1 tsp
  • Red chilli powder 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder ½ tsp
  • Pepper powder ½ tsp
  • salt as required
  • Coriander leaves 2 tbsp
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  • Soak chickpeas in water for 8 hours or overnight.
  • Drain the water and take them in mixer
  • Add onions, salt, chopped garlic, jeera, red chilli powder, coriander powder, pepper powder and coriander leaves to it.
  • Grind them to coarse paste.
  • Transfer them to the bowl and check the seasoning and add if required.
  • Make them as small bowls or shape them as you prefer.
  • Heat oil in a pan and deep fry them till golden.
  • Drain them in kitchen tissue.
  • Serve falafel hot with tahini sauce or hummus.

Notes

You can increase the spiciness according to your preference.
I didn't add any extra flour. If the mixture is soggy you can add some maida or besan to bind them.
You can bake them for 20-25 minutes till it is crisp. You can flatten them while baking.
