Fish Biryani Recipe | Meen Biryani Recipe | Fish Biryani in pressure cooker

Ingredients

  • Fish 500 grams
  • Basmati rice 1 ½ cup
  • Onion 2 big sliced
  • Ginger garlic paste 2 tbsp
  • Curd ¼ cup
  • Green chilli 2 slit
  • Turmeric powder ½ tsp
  • Red chilli powder 1 ½ tsp
  • Coriander powder ½ tsp
  • Garam masala ¾ tsp
  • Cumin powder ½ tsp
  • Salt as required
  • Mint leaves ⅓ cup
  • Water 3 cups
  • Lemon juice from half lemon small

To marinate

  • Salt 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder ½ tsp
  • Red chilli powder 1 tsp
  • Ginger garlic paste 1 tsp
  • Oil for shallow frying

To temper

  • Oil 2 tbsp
  • Ghee 1 tbsp
  • Cloves 4
  • Cardamom 2
  • Bay leaves 3
  • Cinnamon two small sticks
  • Kalpasi 1 tsp

Instructions

  • Soak rice for 30 minutes. Wash and drain the water and keep it ready.
  • Wash and clean the fish. Add salt, red chilli powder, turmeric powder and ginger garlic paste to fish .
  • Mix everything till fish is nicely marinated with masala and keep aside for 15 minutes.
  • Heat oil in a pan.
  • Add the fish pieces and shallow fry them.
  • Flip the fish pieces and fry them till golden.
  • Remove the bones and keep the fish pieces ready.
  • Heat oil and ghee
  • Temper with cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, Bay leaves and kalpasi
  • Add sliced onions and slit green chillies and saute for one minute.
  • Now add ginger garlic paste and saute till raw smell goes.
  • Then add mint leaves and saute till it shrinks
  • Now add curd and saute
  • Then add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, garam masala, cumin powder and salt.
  • Saute till it is nicely combined.
  • Then add washed rice and give a quick saute
  • Now add water and lemon juice.
  • Finally add the fish pieces and check for salt and close the lid.
  • Pressure cook for one whistle and then keep in low flame for 5 minutes and switch off the flame.
  • Release the pressure and open the cooker. Add ghee and mix gently
  • Serve fish biryani hot with raita or curry.

Notes

You can use boneless fish fillets too
After opening the pressure cooker, fluff it off with fork and gently mix without breaking the fish pieces.
Adjust the spices according to your preference.
Use good quality long grain basmati rice
