Garlic Bread Sticks | How to make Garlic Bread Sticks

Bread sticks are flavored with garlic and herbs.

Ingredients

  • Wheat flour 1 cup
  • Yeast 1 ½ tsp
  • Honey 1 ½ tsp
  • Water ½ cup
  • Oil 1 tbsp
  • Garlic 4
  • Oregano 1 tsp
  • Salt ½ tsp or as required

Butter mix

  • Garlic 4
  • Oregano as required
  • Butter 1 tbsp

Instructions

  • Warm water in microwave for 15 seconds
  • Add honey and yeast to it.
  • Mix it nicely, close and keep it aside for 10-15 minutes to proof the yeast.
  • After 15 minutes yeast mixture should be frothy. This shows yeast is active.
  • Take garlic in mortar and crush them.
  • Take flour, salt, crushed garlic, oregano in a bowl and mix.
  • Add frothy yeast mixture to the flour and knead to dough.
  • Now add oil and knead for 10-12 minutes till it is smooth and soft.
  • Cover and allow it to rise till it doubles in size
  • It will take between 1-2 hours. Mine got doubled in 1 hour.
  • Punch the dough and knead for one minute.
  • Grease the baking tray with oil or butter. I used rectangular cake tin.
  • Place the dough in the tin and press them to shape.
  • Allow it to rise for 15-20 minutes till it increases size.
  • Mark line to cut them as sticks.
  • Apply the butter mixed with garlic and oregano on the top
  • Preheat the oven at 180°C for ten minutes and bake in same temperature in 15-30 minutes till it browns. Brush it with little butter/oil
  • Invert and allow to cool down for 10 minutes
  • Cut them as you desire.
  • Serve the Garlic bread sticks hot with cup of coffee/Tea.

Notes

You can use 1 tsp of instant yeast instead of active dry yeast.
If the yeast is not active don't proceed further. There can be few reasons for yeast to be inactive. Yeast is very old and reaching expiry date. Quality of yeast is not good. If you add yeast to very hot water it will kill the yeast. Proofing of yeast is very important for any bread recipes.

You can bake for little longer if you want more crispier bread sticks
