Homemade white bread recipe | White Bread Loaf recipe

Learn how to make soft white bread loaf in home. Bread is one of the easy breakfast option and we can make lot of dishes with bread

Ingredients

  • Maida 3 cups
  • Yeast ½ tbsp
  • Sugar 2 tbsp
  • Oil 2 tbsp
  • Warm water ¾ cup
  • Milk ½ cup
  • Milk powder ¼ cup optional
  • Salt 1 tsp
  • Milk/Butter little for brushing

Instructions

  • Take milk and water in a bowl and microwave for 40-50 second till it is warm. It should not be very hot.
  • To this add sugar and yeast
  • Mix nicely and keep it aside for 10-15 minutes.
  • After 10 mins yeast mixture should be frothy. It shows yeast is active and we can proceed. If it is not frothy you can discard and use new one. There can be few reasons for yeast to be inactive. Yeast is very old and reaching expiry date. Quality of yeast is not good. If you add yeast to very hot water it will kill the yeast. Proofing of yeast is very important for any bread recipes. if the yeast is not active don't proceed further.
  • Take flour, milk powder, salt in a bowl and mix nicely.
  • To this add frothy yeast mixture and oil and knead to dough.
  • Transfer to counter and knead nicely for 10 minutes till it is smooth.
  • Transfer to bowl
  • Cover with muslin cloth and allow it to double in size
  • It will take between 1-2 hours depending on the climate. Mine got doubled in 1 ½ hours.
  • Punch the dough and knead for 2-3 minutes
  • Now shape the dough as loaf. You can roll the dough and fold and bring it as loaf and seal the edges or knead and make loaf.
  • Grease the bread tin with butter.
  • Place the loaf in greased tin
  • Place inside oven and allow it to rise for another 30-45 minutes
  • Then brush the top with butter/milk
  • Preheat the oven to 160°C and bake in the same temperature for 30-35 minutes.
  • Brush it with butter and allow it to cool down
  • cover with plastic wrap and keep inside fridge till usage.
  • slice the bread and serve

Notes

You can increase the sugar for sweet white bread
To get neat slices of bread and avoid crumbling always wrap and keep it in fridge for 2-3 hours. I always keep it overnight and slice in the morning when I require them.
Use good bread knife to slice the bread
Wait till dough doubles in size. Don't go by the timing. Slow proof breads are always more tasty.
Kneading the dough is the key for soft breads.
