I have been making bread using different methods and trying to improve every time. Aroma fills the entire house when you bake bread and buns. Using good quality yeast and kneading is key to making soft breads.
You should not compare homemade bread with store bought bread. They use lot of preservatives and leavening agents in those breads. Homemade bread is always healthy and surely worth for the time you spend in making them. You need time and patience to make bread. I always recommend wheat bread to white bread. Adding milk powder is optional but it makes your bread more soft. I would use it when I have them in stock. We can use the same recipe to make buns, rolls etc. It keeps well for 2-3 days in room temperature and fridge up to one week.

How to make homemade white bread with step by step pictures
Take milk and water in a bowl and microwave for 40-50 second till it is warm. It should not be very hot.
To this add sugar and yeast
Mix nicely and keep it aside for 10-15 minutes.
After 10 mins yeast mixture should be frothy. It shows yeast is active and we can proceed. If it is not frothy you can discard and use new one. There can be few reasons for yeast to be inactive. Yeast is very old and reaching expiry date. Quality of yeast is not good. If you add yeast to very hot water it will kill the yeast. Proofing of yeast is very important for any bread recipes. if the yeast is not active don’t proceed further.
Take flour and salt in a bowl and mix nicely.
To this add frothy yeast mixture, oil and knead to dough.
Transfer to counter and knead nicely for 10 minutes till it is smooth.
Transfer to bowl
Cover with muslin cloth and allow it to double in size
It will take between 1-2 hours depending on the climate. Mine got doubled in 1 1/2 hours.
Punch the dough and knead for 2-3 minutes
Now shape the dough as loaf. You can roll the dough and fold and bring it as loaf and seal the edges or knead and make loaf.
Grease the bread tin with butter.
Place the loaf in greased tin
Cover it and allow it to rise for another 30-45 minutes
Then brush the top with butter/milk. Preheat the oven to 160°C and bake in the same temperature for 30-35 minutes.
Brush it with butter and allow it to cool down.
Cover with plastic wrap and keep inside fridge till usage.
Slice the bread and serve
