Little Millet Upma Recipe | Samai Upma

Little millet upma is quick, healthy and delicious breakfast recipe made with millets and vegetables

Ingredients

  • Samai/Little Millet ½ cup
  • Onion 1 small
  • Tomato 1 small
  • Green chilli 2
  • Ginger ½ tsp finely chopped optional
  • Cabbage ¼ cup
  • Capsicum ¼ cup
  • Potato ½ cup
  • Oil 2 tsp
  • Ghee 1 tsp optional
  • Mustard ½ tsp
  • Urad dal ½ tsp
  • Chana dal 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves few
  • Coriander leaves to garnish

Instructions

  • Soak little millet for 15 minutes.
  • Heat oil in a kadai and temper with mustard, urad dal, chana dal and curry leaves.
  • Then add finely chopped onions, ginger and slit green chilli and saute for 1 minute.
  • Then add tomatoes and saute till mushy.
  • Now add the vegetables, salt and saute nicely for 3-4 minutes till it is half cooked.
  • Then add water and allow it to boil
  • Once it boils add the drained millet and close the lid.
  • Allow it to cook in low flame for 10-15 minutes.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves and add ghee on the top.
  • Serve Millet upma hot with sambar or chutney.

Notes

You can use any type of millet and make upma.
You can pressure cook for 2-3 whistles instead of cooking in the pan.
Add any vegetables of your choice or make it plain.
