Nasi Goreng Recipe | Indonesian Fried Rice

Nasi Goreng is Indonesian stir fried rice prepared using veggies, chicken, prawns, eggs and flavored with kecap manis, sambal oelek, shrimp paste and spices.

Ingredients

  • Cooked Rice 2 cups
  • Chicken ½ cup
  • Garlic 3-4 flakes
  • Ginger 1 tsp
  • Onion 1 small
  • Capsicum ⅓ cup
  • Carrot ¼ cup
  • Cabbage ¼ cup
  • Soya sauce 1 tbsp
  • Brown sugar 2 tsp
  • Red chilli 2
  • Oil 1-2 tbsp
  • Lime juice 1 tbsp
  • Salt as required
  • Pepper powder 1 tsp

Instructions

  • Cook the rice and cool down.
  • Wash and clean the chicken. Cut all the veggies and keep it ready. Crush the ginger and garlic.
  • Take red chilli in mortar and crush it nicely and add lime juice to it to prepare chilli paste.
  • Heat oil and add chicken and crushed ginger and garlic.
  • Saute it nicely for 4-5 minutes till chicken browns.
  • Then add the chopped vegetables and saute in high flame for 3-4 minutes.
  • Then add soya sauce, sugar, salt, chilli paste and pepper powder and saute for few minutes.
  • Then add the cooked rice and mix nicely.
  • Once rice is nicely coated garnish with spring onions or coriander leaves and switch off the flame.
  • Serve it hot with fried egg.

Notes

You can use basmati rice or jasmine rice.
Use 1 tbsp of kecap manis and skip soya sauce and brown sugar in the recipe.
Red chilli and vineger can be replaced with 1 tbsp of sambal oelek.
You can add shrimp paste to enhance the flavors if you can source it.
