Nasi Goreng Recipe | Indonesian Fried Rice recipe with step by step pictures and instructions. Nasi Goreng is Indonesian stir fried rice prepared using veggies, chicken, prawns, eggs and flavored with kecap manis, sambal oelek, shrimp paste and spices. Serve it with fried egg and cucumber. Kecap manis is sweet soy sauce in Indonesia. We can replace it with normal soya sauce and brown sugar with some spices. Sambal oelek is red chilli paste. Grind red chilli along with vineger to prepare sambal oelek. Shrimp paste is dried paste which is optional but it lends unique flavor to rice.

It is so quick and easy to make with leftover rice. I referred many recipes and came up with my own version with ingredients available with me. It was sweet and spicy combo and tasted so delicious. You can skip chicken and replace with vegetables to make veg version of Nasi Goreng. I served it with fried egg so didn’t add eggs in fried rice. You can use basmati rice or jasmine rice for the recipe. I used the normal leftover rice for making delicious fried rice.

  • Fried rice looks superbly delicious Narmadha. Lemon juice and red chilli mixture definitely change the taste of the rice. Bookmarking it to try sometime. Its also a best way to use leftover rice. Superb share.
  • Narmadha cannot even count how many times I've had nasi goreng during my stay in Bali. Its such a popular dish usually served any time of the day as a main meal. Its a versatile dish as chicken, duck, meat, fish or vegetables can be added to the rice and its always served with eggs. Your recipe is tempting me to make it soon.
  • I make the vegetarian version with mushrooms or paneer. love your version with chicken.. with sunny side up on the side it is a wonderful wholesome treat for chicken lovers!!
