Onion Tomato Masala | Onion Tomato Gravy

Learn how to make simple and easy onion tomato gravy. This simple side dish goes well with chapati or roti.

Ingredients

  • Onions 3
  • Tomato 1
  • Red chilli powder 1 tsp
  • salt ¾ tsp or as required
  • Turmeric powder ½ tsp
  • Garam masala ½ tsp
  • Oil 4 tsp
  • Mustard ½ tsp
  • Urad dal ½ tsp
  • Coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  • Thinly slice the onions.
  • Heat oil and add mustard and urad dal.
  • Once it browns add onions.
  • Saute nicely for 10 minutes till it is golden.
  • Then add tomatoes.
  • Saute nicely till tomatoes are mushy and nicely combined
  • Now add salt, red chilli powder, turmeric powder and garam masala.
  • Add little water and allow it to boil nicely for 10-15 minutes till raw smell goes and water is absorbed
  • Garnish with coriander leaves and serve.

Notes

Sauteing onions and tomatoes gives nice taste to the dish
You can add green chillies and ginger garlic paste too.
Usually I add more onions and less tomatoes for this gravy. You can adjust the quantity according to your taste
