Paal Pongal Recipe | Vellai Pongal in Pot | Milk Pongal Recipe

Vellai Pongal is simple pongal made with only rice and milk is added to make it creamy.

Ingredients

  • Raw Rice 1 cup
  • Water 7-8 cups
  • Milk 1 cup
  • salt as required

Instructions

Preparing Pot

  • Tie Manjal kothu(fresh turmeric with leaves) on the pot.
  • Then keep pathai with Vibhuti and keep kungumam on all sides of the pot.

Preparing Pongal

  • Wash and soak rice for 30 minutes
  • Heat water in the prepared clay pot
  • Once it boils, take 2 cups of water in a vessel which we can use later if required to adjust consistency.
  • Now add rice to it
  • Allow it to cook in medium flame.
  • Keep stirring occasionally and cook till rice is half cooked.
  • Add milk and salt to it.
  • Allow it to cook till rice is soft, mushy and creamy.
  • Delicious and creamy vellai pongal is ready.
  • Serve it with Pongal Sambar

Notes

You can add more milk and reduce the water.
Add some chopped coconut pieces for extra crunch.
