Paal Pongal Recipe | Vellai Pongal | Milk Pongal Recipe with step by step pictures and instructions. Vellai Pongal is simple pongal made with only rice and milk is added to make it creamy. It is one of the traditional recipe made for pongal festival in many homes in Tamilnadu. It is offered to god on the day of Pongal. My mom will make only vellai pongal and sakkarai pongal and no rice on the day of pongal.
I am not big fan of paal pongal and always prefer sakkarai pongal only. I always cook pongal in cooker on normal days. Past two years made it a point to cook only in pot on the day of Pongal. I have one vengala paanai(brass pot) which I use to make sakkarai pongal. So got this cute little clay pot to make milk pongal this year. I make very little as my hubby never eat pongal.
You can have this with sambar, rasam and even curd. My mom will add some chopped coconut pieces too but I skipped it. Method of preparation is so simple. Always boil enough water and take two cups of boiled water and add later if required to adjust the consistency of the pongal. Look at my Pongal festive menu below
