Nowadays everyone started consuming millets for its health benefits. It is very easy to substitute millets for rice. I like to use it for variety rice rather than eating separately.
Foxtail millet is rich in fibre, protien and low in fat. Method of preparation of millet sweet pongal is similar to normal ones. Color of the pongal depends on the type of jaggery you use. You can use the same proportion of moong dal and rice as you use in normal sweet pongal. Trust me you won't find much difference in taste. Even my kids enjoyed it. Foxtail Millet Sweet Pongal Recipe | Thinai Sakkarai Pongal Recipe
Ingredients
- Foxtail millet ½ cup
- Moong dal 3 tbsp
- Water 2 ¼ cup
- Jaggery ½-3/4 cup
- Sugar 1 tsp
- Cardamom 2
- Salt a pinch
- Ghee 2 tbsp
- Cashews 7-8
Instructions
- Dry roast moong dal in low flame till aroma comes.
- Wash moong dal and millet together and take in a pressure cooker.
- Add water, close the pan and allow it to cook for 1 whistle and 10 minutes in low flame or till 3 whistles whichever is earlier.
- Once pressure releases open the pan and mash the pongal.
- Add jaggery to it and cook for few mins till jaggery is melted and everything is mixed.
- Now add sugar, pinch of salt and cardamom powder to it.
- Heat ghee in pan and roast cashews till golden brown.
- Add the cashews and ghee to pongal and give a quick mix and switch off the flame.
- Healthy and delicious foxtail millet sweet pongal is ready.

How to make millet sweet pongal with step by step pictures
