Tomato Rasam | Thakali Rasam | Easy Tomato Rasam

Learn how to make easy and simple tomato rasam. Rasam is one of the south Indian food made almost every day in many homes.

Ingredients

  • Tomatoes 2 medium
  • Tamarind small ball ½ cup extracted
  • Water 2 cups
  • Salt 1 tsp or as required
  • Turmeric powder ½ tsp
  • Asaefoetida ¼ tsp
  • Rasam powder 2 tsp
  • Garlic 3-4 pods
  • Curry leaves handful
  • Coriander leaves handful

To temper

  • Oil 2 tsp
  • Mustard ½ tsp
  • Urad dal ½ tsp
  • Red chilli 2

Instructions

  • Take two medium tomatoes and chop them finely.
  • Take small lemon sized tamarind and boil them in water
  • Extract tamarind and keep it ready.
  • Crush the garlic in hand mortar.
  • Heat oil and temper with mustard, urad dal and red chillies.
  • Once it browns add the finely chopped tomatoes.
  • Saute nicely till tomatoes turn mushy
  • Then add the prepared tamarind extract
  • Then add 2 cups of water. Adjust the consistency as you require.
  • Now add turmeric powder,asaefoetida, rasam powder and crushed garlic.
  • Allow it to boil nicely.
  • Switch off the flame and garnish with curry leaves and coriander leaves.

Notes

You can grind the tomatoes and add to rasam
You can skip tamarind and add one more tomato
