Vegetable Chop recipe | Veg Chop Recipe | Bengali Vegetable Chop

Vegetable chop is popular street food in Bengal.

Ingredients

  • Beetroot 3 medium
  • Potatoes 3 medium
  • Peanuts ⅓ cup
  • Oil 1 tbsp
  • Cumin ½ tsp
  • Red chilli powder 2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder ¼ tsp
  • Garam masala 2 tsp
  • Cumin powder ¼ tsp
  • Pepper powder ½ tsp
  • Coriander leaves 3 tbsp finely chopped
  • Maida ½ cup
  • Water as required
  • Bread crumbs as required for rolling

Instructions

  • Wash and pressure cook beetroot and potatoes adding salt for 3-4 whistles
  • Peel the skin and mash them.
  • Roast the peanuts for 2-3 minutes
  • Remove the skin and grind them coarsely.
  • Heat oil and temper with cumin.
  • Once it browns add ginger garlic paste and saute till raw smell goes.
  • Then add mashed beetroot and potatoes
  • Then add salt, red chilli powder, garam nasala, turmeric powder, cumin powder and pepper powder
  • Saute nicely for 4-5 minutes till raw smell of beetroot goes.
  • Then add the crushed peanuts and mix
  • Finally garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves and switch off the flame.
  • Once it cools down, shape them as cylindrical or round
  • Mix maida with water to neither too thick nor too thin consistency and keep it ready.
  • Take bread crumbs in a bowl
  • Take each chop and dip in maida batter.
  • Then roll them in breadcrumbs
  • Repeat the same for all veg chops.
  • Heat oil and deep fry vegetable chop.
  • Vegetable chop is ready. Serve it with ketchup or green chutney.

Notes

You can use the peanuts without crushing too and can add up to ½ cup for more crunchiness.
Beetroot will add sweet taste so I added more spiciness to suit that since everyone in home like spicy than sweet.
You can shallow fry them or bake in oven too.
Can use rava instead of breadcrumbs.
