Vegetable Chop recipe | Veg Chop Recipe | Bengali Vegetable Chop recipe with step by step pictures and instructions. Vegetable chop is popular street food in Bengal. It is similar to vegetable cutlet but they add beetroot which gives sweet taste and peanuts which makes it crunchy. Perfect for evening snacks or starters for parties/occasions.

Similar to cutlet, vegetables are boiled, mashed and spices are added. Then they are coated with bread crumbs and deep or shallow fried. You can add any vegetables along with beetroot. With this we are completing one month of mega blogging Marathon with sweets and snacks. I made 70% of the recipes before so it was easy for me to post regularly through the month.  Still need some more planning next time. See you all with another interesting theme next time. Vegetable chop is popular street food in Bengal.

Ingredients

  • Beetroot 3 medium
  • Potatoes 3 medium
  • Peanuts 1/3 cup
  • Oil 1 tbsp
  • Cumin 1/2 tsp
  • Red chilli powder 2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
  • Garam masala 2 tsp
  • Cumin powder 1/4 tsp
  • Pepper powder 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander leaves 3 tbsp finely chopped
  • Maida 1/2 cup
  • Water as required
  • Bread crumbs as required for rolling

Instructions

  1. Wash and pressure cook beetroot and potatoes adding salt for 3-4 whistles
  2. Peel the skin and mash them.
  3. Roast the peanuts for 2-3 minutes
  4. Remove the skin and grind them coarsely.
  5. Heat oil and temper with cumin.
  6. Once it browns add ginger garlic paste and saute till raw smell goes.
  7. Then add mashed beetroot and potatoes
  8. Then add salt, red chilli powder, garam nasala, turmeric powder, cumin powder and pepper powder
  9. Saute nicely for 4-5 minutes till raw smell of beetroot goes.
  10. Then add the crushed peanuts and mix
  11. Finally garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves and switch off the flame.
  12. Once it cools down, shape them as cylindrical or round
  13. Mix maida with water to neither too thick nor too thin consistency and keep it ready.
  14. Take bread crumbs in a bowl
  15. Take each chop and dip in maida batter.
  16. Then roll them in breadcrumbs
  17. Repeat the same for all veg chops.
  18. Heat oil and deep fry vegetable chop.
  19. Vegetable chop is ready. Serve it with ketchup or green chutney.

Notes

You can use the peanuts without crushing too and can add up to 1/2 cup for more crunchiness.

Beetroot will add sweet taste so I added more spiciness to suit that since everyone in home like spicy than sweet.

You can shallow fry them or bake in oven too.

Can use rava instead of breadcrumbs.

How to make Vegetable Chop with step by step pictures
