Whole Wheat Pizza Base Recipe | Whole Wheat Pizza Dough | Homemade Wheat Pizza Crust without oven

Learn how to make a pizza base with whole wheat flour. It is a healthy alternative to pizza made with refined flour.

Ingredients

  • Whole wheat flour 1.5 cups
  • Yeast 2 tsp
  • Milk ¾ cup + 2 tbsp
  • Honey/Sugar 1 tbsp
  • Salt 1 tsp
  • Oil 2 tbsp

Instructions

  • Warm milk and add honey to it and mix till honey is dissolved.
  • Add yeast to it and mix.
  • Cover and keep it aside for 10-15 minutes.
  • After 10 minutes yeast mixture will be frothy. This shows yeast is active. If it is not frothy don't proceed further
  • Take wheat flour and salt in a bowl.
  • Add frothy yeast mixture to it and knead to form a dough
  • Then add oil to the dough.
  • Knead it nicely for 10-12 minutes till the dough is soft and pliable
  • Cover and keep it aside for 1 hour or till it doubles in size.
  • Now punch the dough and knead for 1-2 mins.
  • Now you can roll the dough to a pizza base. I usually like to have medium-sized pizzas.
  • Roll the dough into a circle. You can roll them thick or thin according to your preference.
  • I usually roll them medium. Prick it with a fork so they don't puff up while baking
  • Transfer the pizza base to the plate.
  • Heat the Kadai for 4-5 minutes in medium flame.
  • Then place the pizza base and cook in low flame for 10-15 minutes till the base is a little firm.
  • Cooldown and store in zip lock covers in the freezer.
  • Whole wheat pizza base is ready.
  • Apply pizza sauce, toppings of your choice, cheese, and bake them.

Notes

If you are baking in oven, preheat the oven to 200°C for 15 minutes and bake in the same temperature for 8-10 minutes.
If you are using air fryer, preheat for 3 minutes and bake in the basket for 5 minutes at 200°C
You can also directly cook the base in dosa pan flipping both sides. But cooking in kadai gives similar results as baking in oven.
There can be few reasons for yeast to be inactive. Yeast is very old and reaching expiry date. Quality of yeast is not good. If you add yeast to very hot water it will kill the yeast. Proofing of yeast is very important for any bread recipes. if the yeast is not active don't proceed further.
Kneading is the key to make the dough soft. So knead nicely for 10 minutes.
Proofing time will vary on the climatic conditions. So always look if the dough has doubled in size rather than specific time.
You can use water in the place of milk and sugar in place of honey to make this recipes as vegan.
You can roll the pizza base as thick or thin. Cooking time will depend in the thickness of the base.
