Murukku Recipe | How to make Murukku recipe with step by step pictures and instructions. Murukku is crunchy fried snack which everyone will enjoy it. It is one of the must to have for Diwali. My mom always makes murukku, ribbon pakoda and adhirasam. Every year I will have my mom to help me while making all sweets and savouries. This year I miss my mom and obviously called her to get all tips and recipes. My mom makes murukku in different way using raw rice and give it in mill to grind in large quantity. This recipe I learnt from Venkatesh Bhat show samayal samayal. It uses idly rice and we can grind in mixer itself.
I have made this murukku many times and grated coconut gives nice taste to murukku. You can add some extra butter and make butter murukku in same flour. I usually do that in the end. Original recipe told to just wash the rice and grind it. But I always soak the rice for 3-4 hours so it is easy while grinding. Do try and let me know your feedback. You can also try below recipes
Murukku Recipe | How to make Murukku
Ingredients
- Idly rice 3 cups
- Urad Dal 1 cup
- Coconut 1/2 grated
- Asafoetida 1/2 tsp
- Salt 2 tsp or as required
- Butter 1/2 cup or 110 grams
- Sesame seeds 1 tbsp
Instructions
- Wash the Idly rice 3-4 times. Soak them for 3-4 hours. Drain water and keep it aside.
- Take Urad Dal and dry roast them in medium flame till nice smell comes and slightly golden.
- Cool and grind to smooth powder in mixer. Sieve the flour and keep it ready.
- Take half of the coconut and scrape the coconut into pieces.
- Remove the outer black layer and shred it in mixer.
- To this add the washed rice
- Add little water and grind to smooth paste like Idly Batter.
- To the mixture add urad dal powder, asafoetida, salt, sesame seeds and butter and knead to smooth dough.
- Using murukku aachu of your choice and make it in required shapes. I used my idiyappam plate and spoon to make spiral murukku. It is easy to drop directly in oil.
- Heat oil in kadai
- Fry the shaped murukku in hot oil till crisp and drain them in tissue.
- Cool them completely and store the murukku in air tight container.
- Add extra butter to dough and make butter murukku.

How to make Murukku with step by step pictures
