Cumin Powder | Jeera Powder Recipe with step by step pictures and instructions. Learn how to make aromatic cumin powder in home. Cumin is also called as Jeera and is one the most important spice in Indian kitchen. It is very easy and simple to make cumin powder in home. We need to just roast the cumin and powder it. It is very flavorful and aromatic when you prepare in home. I want to post basic recipes also here for beginners. I always prepare most of the masala I use in home only.

Cumin has lot of health benefits. Cumin water in morning helps in weight loss. It also helps to reduce cholesterol which in turn helps in reducing weight. Cumin is very good for digestion. You can drink cumin water. Just boil cumin, filter and drink the water. You can give for kids also. Cumin is also very good for skin. Cumin powder can be used for making curries, raita, chaas, chat items and the list goes on. Take extra care while roasting the cumin so it doesn’t get burnt. It can be stored in airtight container for months.

Ingredients

  • Cumin Seeds/Jeera 100 grams

Instructions

  1. Take cumin in kadai
  2. Dry roast the cumin in medium or low flame
  3. Keep stirring at regular intervals to avoid cumin gets burnt.
  4. Roast till nice aroma comes. Entire kitchen will be filled with aroma.
  5. Remove from stove and transfer to plate. Allow it to cool down
  6. Transfer the contents to mixer.
  7. Grind to fine powder.
  8. Cool them and store in air tight container
  9. Roasted Cumin Powder is ready

Notes

Take extra care while roasting as cumin gets burnt easily

If cumin is roasted for longer, it may give bitter taste in gravies

Cumin powder can be stored for many months.
