It is called Nattu kozhi in Tamil. It is considered the best remedy for cold/cough for kids. Always have country chicken with skin as it is more flavorful.
Chicken or mutton soup is favorite for my kids. I also make Nattu Kozhi kuzhambu or biryani with country chicken. Soup is so comforting and soothing during monsoons. Soup is mild spicy suitable for kids. Nowadays we get hybrid country chicken too. Original country chicken takes a long time to cook. Check and adjust the cooking time according to the type of country chicken.

Ingredients
- Country chicken 250 grams
- Small onions 4-5 big ones
- Tomato 1 small
- Red chilli powder ¾ tsp
- Coriander powder ½ tsp
- Turmeric powder ¼ tsp
- Garam masala ½ tsp
- Cumin Powder ½ tsp
- Pepper powder ½ tsp
- Coriander leaves 1 tbsp to garnish
- Curry leaves few
- Oil 2 tsp
- Cumin seeds ¼ tsp
- Fennel seeds ¼ tsp
- Salt as required
- Water 2-3 cups
Instructions
- Clean and wash the country chicken.
- Heat oil and add cumin seeds, fennel seeds, and curry leaves.
- Then add finely chopped onions and saute for a minute.
- Then add ginger garlic paste and saute till raw smell goes.
- Next, add tomatoes and saute till mushy.
- Then add the country chicken and saute for few minutes.
- Add salt, red chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, cumin powder, and pepper powder.
- Add water and then close the lid.
- Pressure cook it for 5-6 whistles.
- Once it cools down open the cooker, garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
- Flavorful nattu kozhi soup is ready.
