Ingredients

  • Knol khol 250 grams
  • Chana dal 3 tbsp
  • Onions 1
  • Tomato small 1
  • Salt 3/4 tsp
  • Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  • Sambar powder 1 1/2 tsp
  • Water 3/4 cup
  • To Temper
  • Oil 2tsp
  • Mustard 1/4 tsp
  • Urad dal 1/4 tsp
  • curry leaves few

Instructions

  1. Take chana dal and soak in water for 30 minutes.
  2. Remove the skin, wash and cut the turnip and keep it ready.
  3. Heat oil in pressure cooker and temper with mustard, urad dal and curry leaves.
  4. Then add the finely chopped onions and saute till transparent
  5. Then add the tomatoes and saute till mushy.
  6. Now add chopped knol khol and give a quick stir
  7. Then add salt, turmeric powder and sambar powder.
  8. Now add soaked chana dal
  9. Then add water and check the seasoning
  10. Close the lid and pressure cook for 3 whistles.
  11. Open the lid and if there is little water you can switch on the stove and saute for few minutes.
  12. Serve knol khol with hot rice.

Notes

Choose fresh and tender khol knol

I have added sambar powder. You can substitute with red chilli powder and coriander powder.

How to make Knol Khol Curry with step by step pictures

Take chana dal and soak in water for 30 minutes.

  • The first thing I do when winter arrives is get hold of some of those white and purple turnips - I love them so much! I almost always end up using them in kurma, though. I should try out your Poriyal some time, Narmadha. It looks delicious!
  • Knol khol curry using chana dal is very tasty recipe. Your version curry looks very tasty, my vegetable vendor gives few knol khol fry after purchasing vegetables . So I regularly use it in curry and sambar , amazing winter recipe Narmadha.
  • Turnips we do not enjoy much but you make the one pot curry sound extremely easy and delicious. I can make it for a lazy Sunday sounds delicious.
