Buckwheat pancakes recipe | Gluten free Buckwheat pancakes recipe with step by step pictures and instructions. Buckwheat pancakes are simple and gluten free pancakes which can be prepared in 15 minutes. I have used one egg in the recipe. You can make it eggless by adding curd. You can prepare sweet or savory version of pancakes. My elder one likes savory and my younger one likes to have it sweet. So I prepared it simple and added toppings as per their choice.
Buckwheat belongs to a group of foods commonly called pseudocereals. Pseudocereals are seeds that are consumed as cereal grains but don’t grow on grasses. Other common pseudocereals include quinoa and amaranth. Despite its name, buckwheat is not related to wheat and is thus gluten-free. Buckwheat has become popular as a health food due to its high mineral and antioxidant content. Its benefits may include improved blood sugar control.(Source:Healthline).

Challenge for this month in Shhh Secretly cooking challenge FB group is Pancakes. Archana who suggested the theme told to use some different pancake recipes. Pancake is basically flat, round shaped bread prepared on the pan using milk, butter, eggs and some raising agents. There are so many different varieties of pancakes in different countries and called by different names. Indian version of pancakes are dosa, cheela, appam, uttapam to name a few.
My partner for this month was very talented blogger Kalyani who blogs sizzlingtastebuds. Her blog contains lot of recipes around the world which are mostly vegan and gluten free. Do check her space for some amazing recipes. I gave her oats and ajwain as secret ingredients and she made the mouthwatering and delicious Oats Chilla. She gave me buckwheat and pepper powder as secret ingredient and I made this gluten free buckwheat pancakes.

Ingredients
- Buckwheat flour 1 cup
- Egg 1
- Salt as required
- Milk 1/2 cup
- Water 1/2 cup or as eequirwd
- Pepper powder 1/2 tsp
Instructions
- Take buckwheat flour in a bowl
- Add egg to it and mix.
- Then add milk, water and mix without lumps to form smooth batter
- Finally add salt and pepper powder and mix.
- Pancakes batter is ready.
- Heat dosa pan and spread the batter
- Drizzle little oil and flip the Pancakes.
- Repeat the same for rest of the batter.
- Buckwheat pancakes is ready.
- Enjoy with your favorite toppings
Notes
You can add little baking powder or soda to the batter. I generally avoid adding them.
You can use curd and make it eggless.
You can add some onions, green chillies to the batter and prepare like dosa too.
I topped it with some grated carrot, capsicum and onions.
You can add some sugar to the batter and drizzle honey, fruits and serve like typical American Pancakes.
