Peter Rabbit Cake | Rabbit Cake for kids birthday | Eggless Birthday Cake recipe with step by step pictures and instructions. Learn how to make cute rabbit cake for birthday. Peter rabbit is fictional animal character created by Beatrix Potter. We visited the famous World of Beatrix Potter in UK where each of his fictional story and characters are depicted. Since then my daughter is big fan of Peter Rabbit cartoons. She told me to make rabbit cake for her birthday.  As usual I was planning long before and thought we can make cake in shape of rabbit. This is my first attempt in making shaped cakes. Rabbit shape was easy to make but I was not so happy with finishing as there were lot of hindrances during decorating so whipped cream lose its shape a bit while piping.

I made healthy whole wheat cake using brown sugar and decorated with whipped cream frosting. I am not so expert in frosting so cake was not looking so professional. But taste was so good. It was so moist, soft and spongy. One of the best healthy cakes I have made. No one was able to tell it is made with wheat flour. You can gift your kids with healthy cake for their birthday. I made three chocolate sponge cake and cut them in shape of rabbit. You can use any colors or even fondant for decoration. Make sure to keep the whipped cream in fridge till you use them especially in very hot weather conditions.

Ingredients

    Cake Base(below measurement is for one sponge)
  • Wheat flour 1 1/2 cup
  • Cocoa powder 2 tbsp
  • Baking powder 1 tsp
  • Baking soda 1/2 tsp
  • Salt 1/4 tsp
  • Milk 1 cup
  • Oil 1/2 cup
  • Vinegar 1 tbsp
  • Vanilla essence 2 tsp
  • Brown sugar 1 cup minus 2 tbsp
  • Sugar Syrup
  • Water 1 cup
  • Sugar 2 tbsp
  • Decorating
  • Whipped Cream as required
  • Colors of your choice

Instructions

  1. Take wheat flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and baking soda in sieve
  2. Sieve them for 6-7 times and keep it ready.
  3. Take milk in a bowl and add vinegar.
  4. Mix it nicely and keep it aside for 5 minutes.
  5. In the frothy milk add sugar, oil and vanilla essence and mix it nicely till sugar is dissolved.
  6. Add flour in batches and mix
  7. Mix nicely without lumps till everything is combined
  8. Pour the batter in greased tin
  9. Preheat the oven to 180°C for ten minutes and bake in the same temperature for 45-50 minutes till toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  10. Cool them in wire rack.
  11. Similarly prepare two more sponge cakes using the same measurements. Since my oven is small, I baked two sponge in oven and one in cooker to save the time.
  12. Follow the below steps to bake in Cooker
  13. Take pressure cooker and place the plate in the bottom.
  14. Remove the gasket and whistle
  15. Close the cooker lid and preheat in medium flame for 7-10 minutes.
  16. Then place the baking tray in cooker
  17. Bake for 50-55 minutes till toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  18. Cool them in wire rack.
  19. Sugar Syrup
  20. Dissolve sugar in water and use as sugar syrup for cakes.
  21. Assembling Cake
  22. I baked two round and one square sponge cake.

  26. You can cut them carefully and keep it ready.
  27. Now you can assemble the cute rabbit
  28. Make the whipped Cream Frosting and take two parts of it and add pink and blue color to it and keep it ready.
  29. Take your cake board and apply some whipped cream in top.
  30. Place the cake on top.
  31. Apply some sugar syrup
  32. Apply whipped cream on the top
  33. Place the next layer of cake on the top
  34. Apply sugar syrup and them cover with cream.
  35. Pipe on the sides and decorate as per your choice

Notes

Use gel colors instead of liquid colors

Sugar syrup helps to keep the cake moist

Baking time will vary depending on oven so always keep an eye after 40 minutes

Decorate as per your wish. You can add some sprinkles and or use fondant for decoration

How to make Peter Rabbit Cake with step by step pictures

Making Base Sponge 

Take wheat flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and baking soda in sieve

Add flour in batches and mix

Mix nicely without lumps till everything is combined

Pour the batter in greased tin

Preheat the oven to 180°C for ten minutes and bake in the same temperature for 45-50 minutes till toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool them in wire rack.

Follow the below steps to bake in Cooker

Take pressure cooker and place the plate in the bottom.

Sugar Syrup and Whipping Cream

Prepare the Whipped Cream Frosting following the instructions in link

Dissolve sugar in water and use as sugar syrup for cakes and prepare whipped cream and make it ready.

Assembling Peter Rabbit Cake

I baked two round and one square sponge cake.

First take one round sponge cake. Cut them in both sides as curve.

Take square cake and use them to make rabbit ears

You can cut them carefully and keep it ready.

Now you can assemble the cute rabbit

Make the whipped Cream Frosting and take two parts of it and add pink and blue color to it and keep it ready.

Take your cake board and apply some whipped cream in top.
