Kothavarangai Poriyal Recipe | Cluster Beans Poriyal Recipe with step by step pictures and instructions. Simple and delicious poriyal with cluster beans. Cluster beans is also called as kothavarangai in Tamil and we use it to make poriyal, paruppu usli or kottu. Cluster beans is rich in vitamin C and has high content of folic acid which is good for pregnant women.
It is very easy and simple recipe and similar to how we make carrot or beans poriyal with coconut. It goes well as side dish for rice. You can cook it in pressure cooker and add grated coconut in the end. We can skip sambar powder and add green/red chilli. Let's check how to make this simple kothavarangai poriyal. Kothavarangai Poriyal Recipe | Cluster Beans Poriyal Recipe
Ingredients
- Cluster beans 250 grams
- Onion 1
- Salt as required
- Sambar powder 1.5 tsp
- Turmeric powder ¼ tsp
- Oil 1.5 tsp
- Mustard ½ tsp
- Urad dal ½ tsp
- Curry leaves few
- Grated coconut 3 tbsp
Instructions
- Wash and cut the cluster beans.
- Heat oil in kadai and temper with mustard, urad dal and curry leaves.
- Once it browns add the finely chopped onions and saute for a minute
- Then add chopped cluster beans and saute for 2 mins.
- Then add salt, turmeric powder and sambar powder.
- Mix and add water
- Close the lid and cook till and allow it to cook.
- Cook till it is soft and all water evaporated.
- Then add grated coconut, mix and switch off the flame.
- Cluster beans poriyal is ready.

How to make Kothavarangai Poriyal with step by step pictures
Wash and cut the cluster beans.
