Manathakkali Keerai Kootu Recipe | Keerai Kootu | Keerai Sambar recipe with step by step pictures and instructions. Keerai kootu is delicious and healthy curry made with greens and dal. It goes well with rice or as side dish for roti/chapati. Manathakkali is also called as black nightshade and very good for mouth ulcers. You can use any type of keerai to make this kootu.

My mom always soak the keerai in water for 15 minutes to remove dirt. Then drain it completely and allow it to dry in paper. Once it is dry finely chop them and use it. I have already shared another version of keerai kootu. I will make both interchangeably once in a week. You can make it as dry or semi gravy according to your preference. I sometimes use the toor dal we boil for sambar to make this kootu. Here is the simple lunch with keerai kootu, roasted broccoli, omelette, rasam and curd.

Monday again and theme for this week in Foodie Monday Bloghop group is #262Bitter but, Good suggested by Sasmita who blogs at firsttimercook. She suggested to use any bitter vegetable. Keerai kootu is my favorite. Liked your recipe where you have skipped the traditional way of adding coconut paste and used onion tomatoes instead for making the kootu . I love to have keerai kootu with hot rice anf some roasted papad

This curry with lentils and black nightshade leaves looks so healthy and comforting. I've not tried the leaves or the berries but would love to use them at least once if given the opportunity. Perfect way to enjoy the nutrients of this unique plant.
