Chocolate Sponge Cake is one of the most loved cake by everyone and perfect for any occasion or celebration. Being a fan of chocolate I always end up making chocolate cake. I have tried many recipes and this recipe is surely a keeper and can be used as base for any cake. One of the best chocolate sponge cake recipe which never let me down.
This recipe uses eggs which gives amazing texture to the cake. If you are looking for cakes without eggs check my collection of eggless bakes. You can decorate the cake as per your choice or simply enjoy them without frosting. I have used whipped cream frosting for decorating the cake and used chocolate and sprinkles on the top. You can use buttercream frosting or Chocolate Ganache. Suprise your siblings by making this yummy and soft chocolate sponge cake for Raksha Bandhan. Chocolate Cake Recipe | Chocolate Pastry | Chocolate Sponge cake
Ingredients
Chocolate Sponge
- Maida/All purpose flour ½ cup
- Cocoa powder ¼ cup
- Baking soda 1 tsp
- Egg 4
- Sugar ⅔ cup
- Vanilla essence 2 tsp
- Oil 2 tbsp
Sugar Syrup
- Water ½ cup
- Sugar 1-2 tbsp
Frosting
- Whipping Cream as required
- Chocolate sauce/Butterscotch sauce as required
- Chocolate chips/sprinkles/grated chocolate for topping
Instructions
- Sieve Maida, cocoa powder, baking soda in a 2-3 times and keep it aside.
- Take eggs in a bowl
- Add sugar and beat it nicely till fluffy and bubbly.
- Add oil and vanilla essence and beat it.
- Slowly add the flour mixture and beat it till it is combined nicely.
- Grease the mini loaf baking pan with butter and dust with flour.
- Pour the prepared mixture to the pan and tap it 2-3 times to release air.
- You can preheat the oven to 160°C for ten mins while you are preparing the batter.
- Bake in same temperature for 30-35 minutes till toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
- Cool them in wire rack
- Cut them into three layers
- Prepare sugar syrup by mixing water and sugar
- Place some parchment paper and place a layer of cake on the top
- Sprinkle some sugar syrup on the cake
- Apply layer of whipping cream on the top
- Place the next layer of cake and sprinkle sugar syrup
- Apply layer of whipping cream on the top
- Then place the final layer of cake
- Apply the remaining whipping cream on the top and cover the sides
- Drizzle some chocolate or butterscotch sauce on the top
- Apply some grated chocolate on the sides
- Top it with chocolate chips, sprinkles, nuts or anything of your choice.
