Makhana is also called fox nut or lotus seeds in English and it has numerous health benefits. It is so popular in North India and mostly consumed during Fasting.
I was checking in supermarkets and finally ordered a packet from big basket. It is a good and healthy alternative to popcorn and so easy to make too. Just roast the makhana and toss with spices of your choice. Spicy roasted makhana is ready. I make it for my kid's school snack box or evening snack. This can be made and stored in an airtight container.

Roasted Phool Makhana Recipe | Spicy Makhana | Fox nut masala
Ingredients
- Makhana/Lotus seeds 2 cups
- Chaat masala ½ tsp
- Red chilly powder ¼ tsp
- Pepper powder ¼ tsp
- Turmeric powder ¼ tsp
- Butter 1 tbsp
- Oil 1.5 tsp
- Salt as required
Instructions
- Heat butter and roast the makhana in low flame till crispy and crunchy and remove them.
- In the same pan heat oil and add all the spice powders.
- Give a quick mix till everything is combined.
- Add the roasted makhana to it.
- Give a quick till masalas are evenly coated.
- Spicy roasted phool makhana is ready.
