Roasted Phool Makhana Recipe | Spicy Makhana | Masala Fox nut recipe with step-by-step pictures and instructions. Roasted Phool Makhana is a quick and healthy snack made with makhana. Makhana is also called fox nut or lotus seeds in English and it has numerous health benefits.  It is so popular in North India and mostly consumed during Fasting.

I was checking in supermarkets and finally ordered a packet from big basket. It is a good and healthy alternative to popcorn and so easy to make too. Just roast the makhana and toss with spices of your choice. Spicy roasted makhana is ready. I make it for my kid’s school snack box or evening snack. This can be made and stored in an airtight container.

Roasted Phool Makhana is a quick and healthy snack made with makhana/lotus seed

Ingredients

  • Makhana/Lotus seeds 2 cups
  • Chaat masala 1/2 tsp
  • Red chilly powder 1/4 tsp
  • Pepper powder 1/4 tsp
  • Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
  • Butter 1 tbsp
  • Oil 1.5 tsp
  • Salt as required

Instructions

  1. Heat butter and roast the makhana in low flame till crispy and crunchy and remove them.
  2. In the same pan heat oil and add all the spice powders.
  3. Give a quick mix till everything is combined.
  4. Add the roasted makhana to it.
  5. Give a quick till masalas are evenly coated.
  6. Spicy roasted phool makhana is ready.

Notes

You can dry roast the makhana instead of roasting in butter.

In order for the spices to coat evenly with makhana I added spices to oil and then tossed.

Adjust the spices according to your preference.
