Tomato Biryani Recipe | Tomato Biryani in pressure cooker | Tomato Rice Recipe with step by step pictures and instructions. Tomato Biryani is delicious one pot meal prepared using tomatoes. There are quite a different ways to prepare Tomato rice or thakkali sadam. This one pot meal is prepared using pressure cooker with easily available ingredients. I don't generally add vegetables but you can add some green peas, soya chunks or anything of your choice.
I make this atleast once a week and pack for my kids lunch box too. Serve it with simple raita and your lunch is sorted out. Hope everyone is safe and staying inside home. Ingredients
- Tomato 5 big or 350 grams
- Rice 1 ½ cups
- Onion 2 medium
- Green chilli 1
- Ginger Garlic Paste 1 tbsp
- Red chilli powder ½ tsp
- Coriander powder ½ tsp
- Garam masala ½ tsp
- Turmeric powder ¼ tsp
- Cumin powder ¼ tsp
- Salt 1.5 tsp or as required
- Mint leaves ½ cup
- Coriander leaves 2 tbsp
- Curd 2 tbsp
- Water 2 ¼ cup
To Temper
- Oil 2 tbsp
- Ghee 1 tbsp
- Bay leaf 2
- Cloves 3
- Cardamom 2
- Cinnamon small stick
- Star Anise 2
Instructions
- Soak basmati rice for 30 minutes. Wash and drain the water and keep it ready.
- Slice the onions, gomato, green chillies and prepare the ginger garlic paste.
- Heat oil, ghee and temper with whole spices given under to temper.
- Once it browns add the sliced onions and green chillies
- Then add ginger garlic paste and saute till raw smell goes
- Then add the chopped tomatoes and saute for 5 minutes.
- Now add the mint leaves and coriander leaves saute.
- Then add curd to it.
- Next add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, coriander powder, cumin powder and salt.
- Saute nicely till tomatoes are mushy and then add water.
- When the water boils, add the rice and check the seasoning.
- Close the pressure cook and cook in medium flame for one whistle and slow flame for 5 minutes.
- Wait for the pressure to settle down and open the lid. Gently mix it up.
- Tomato rice is ready. Serve it with simple raita.

How to make Tomato Biryani with step by step pictures
