There are so many different ways to make potato poriyal. This is the simple version without onions, garlic, and tomatoes. Pair it with tamarind rice, lemon rice, or simple rasam. Perfect to pack for lunch boxes, picnics, or during long travel.

Potato Curry recipe | Urulaikilangu Poriyal | Dry potato curry
Ingredients
- Potatoes 350 grams
- Ginger garlic paste 1.5 tsp optional
- Red chili powder 2.5 tsp
- Coriander powder 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder ½ tsp
- Garam masala ½ tsp
- Oil 2 tbsp
- Mustard ½ tsp
- Urad dal ½ tsp
- Curry leaves few
- Coriander leaves 1 tbsp
Instructions
- Wash and pressure cook the potatoes for 2 whistles.
- Once the pressure releases, peel the skin of the potatoes and cube them.
- Heat oil and temper with mustard, urad dal and curry leaves.
- Then keep the flame in low and add ginger garlic paste, red chilli powder, coriander, turmeric powder and garam masala.
- Give a quick stir and add little water if the masala is dry.
- Allow it to boil for 3-4 minutes and then add the cubed potatoes.
- Allow the potatoes to roast till oil started oozing out and masala is nicely coated with potatoes.
- Garnish with coriander leaves and switch off the flame.
- Spicy potato curry is ready. Serve it with variety rice or simple rasam.

How to make potato curry with step by step pictures
